Director of the Street Level Photoworks Gallery, Malcolm Dickson discusses the current exhibition, Borderlands II, the largest representation of Lithuanian photography shown in the UK to date. As part of a season of Lithuanian photography pulled together by Street Level Photoworks and a number of local and regional venues, this exhibition showcases photography from the 80s and 90s, before, during and after the fall of the Soviet Union.
This exhibition has a mixture of solo and group work, and shows a combination of photos that have been treated in different ways, from incorporating found photographs to adapting originals with paint and other materials, thus breaking away from what might be considered a more traditional form of Lithuanian art photography. This is a rare look into some of Lithuania’s photography, as many of the artists have not exhibited work in the UK before.
Borderlands II is on at Street Level Photoworks Gallery, Glasgow, until the 6th of October 2013.
