Naiza Khan : Disrupting the Alignment

Sophia Hao, Curator of Cooper Art Gallery at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, introduces the new exhibition ‘Disrupting the Alignment’, by Pakistani artist Naiza Khan. Featuring three films, watercolours, prints and photographic works, this is Khan’s first major exhibition in Scotland, and aims to explore and highlight an aspect of Pakistan that is so rarely seen by outsiders.

Naiza Khan’s work has been exhibited internationally. A firm supporter of contemporary art in Pakistan, Khan was a founding member and long-time coordinator of the distinctive Vasl Artists’ Collective; she has also been an active participant in a series of innovative art projects in South Asia. In 2013 Khan was awarded the prestigious Prince Claus Award in recognition of work that offers a complex and nuanced perspective on contemporary Pakistani society and the challenges it is facing.

Disrupting the Alignment is on at the Cooper Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee, until 15th February 2014.
