Mairi Lafferty : KISS THE SHUTTLE

Artist Mairi Lafferty introduces her new show KISS THE SHUTTLE, which is currently exhibiting at the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop’s gallery space, TANK. The exhibition explores the industrial process of shuttle kissing, which was carried out in weaving mills in Lancashire, and required workers to thread a tiny ceramic eye by sucking the thread through it.

TANK is Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop‘s new members run gallery space, which will be showcasing the work of artists selected and curated by the members.

Mairi Lafferty is a visual artist based in Edinburgh working with film, video, sound, printmaking and performance. Mairi studied Sculpture at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, completing her Masters in Fine Art from Glasgow School of Art in 2008.

KISS THE SHUTTLE is on at the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop until the 16th March, 2014.
