Phillipa Aitken : Gerhard Richter

ARTIST ROOMS and the Dick Institute present the work of German artist Gerhard Richter. This collection spans over 30 years of the artist’s career, and features a series of abstract paintings, and the important photographic work, 48 Portraits.

With a career spanning nearly 6 decades, Gerhard Richter is widely considered to be one the world’s most acclaimed living artists. His painting focuses on three areas: figurative, constructive and abstract. This has led him to creating a large body of work, which has enabled him to explore the basic principles of painting.

ARTIST ROOMS is a collection of international modern and contemporary art, established through one of the largest donations of contemporary art. It is owned and run by the National Galleries of Scotland and Tate, the core idea being to provide a resource of contemporary art that the nation can view and be inspired by.
Gerhard Richter’s work is on at the Dick Institute, Kilmarnock, until the 6th December 2014.
