Rachel Maclean : A Whole New World

After winning the prestigious Margaret Tait Award, artist Rachel Maclean created her newest piece ‘A Whole New World’, a film that encompasses Maclean’s trademark green screen composite video technique and bright costumes. Looking at broader ideas of national identity and cultural imperialism, specifically in relation to the former British Empire, Maclean plays all the characters, and appropriates audio from the Internet including a clip of David Cameron’s speech at last year’s G20 summit in St.Petersburg, defending the ‘small island’ that is the UK.
