Ruth Nicol : Three Rivers Meet

Inspired by the work of painter Alexander Moffat, particularly his piece ‘Poets’ Pub’, painter Ruth Nicol explores the landscapes of seven Scottish poets; Hugh MacDiarmid, Edwin Morgan, Norman MacCaig, Sorley Maclean, George MacKay Brown, Robert Garioch and Iain Crichton Smith. In a year that has been culturally and politically significant for Scotland, Nicol takes time to reflect upon Scotland’s contribution to culture, and how the country’s landscape has played a role in some of the creative work from the country.

Three Rivers Meet is on at the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Glasgow, until the 29th November 2014, and travels on to galleries around Scotland afterwards.
